His father was a livestock trader.
He had 14 brothers and sisters, and was the second youngest in the family.
He began singing in 1969 on "شارع محمد علي", at "قهوة الآلاتية".
He began a new style of folk art whose songs were marked by simplicity and boldness, such as "السح الدح إمبو" and "كركشنجى دبح كبشه".
He became famous after singing at the wedding-anniversary party of the singer Sherifa Fadel, after which the owner of "كازينو الأريزونا" offered him work.
He had an accident that forced him to retire from singing in 1989.
